Up in the sunshine

Last week we took a little trip up the North 101 to Saltery Bay, where we camped in an old growth forest, listened to babbling brooks, bronzed ourselves on beautiful beaches, and were greeted by friendly country folk at every turn. We were lucky enough to bring Jolene's old lady-dog Jane along to keep an eye on the squirrels and to make sure we didn't swim out too far. We visited Powell River, a beautiful, historic, oceanfront town, and happened upon their annual Blackberry Festival. On our way back to civilization we had the amazing luck to stop by the Garlic Festival in Pender Harbour, which was so much fun we hardly had time to mourn the end of our vacation. Here are but a few glimpses of the magical times we had.

This contraption is called a "Steam Donkey" (no relation to the animal), and apparently it took like 5 helicopters and a spaceship to move it to its current location. Back in the day they used it as some sort of logging thingamajig.

This thing is some sort of logging railway car that is used to move logs and also uses logs for rails. If you think that's a lot of logs, you shoulda seen the shitters in the logging camp....

Jane thought she was too cool, so she ditched us to hang out with the Kelp.

Its pretty hard to relax when you're doing this all afternoon.
